The comic book industry in Malaysia is worth about RM1.5 billion a year, with over one third of 500 publishing houses active. However, technology is changing the face of entertainment in certain areas, such as comics and manga. For decades, Japanese publishers have been churning out volumes of comic strips known as manga with themes adapted to particular age groups and gender; their printing runs into the millions. With the highest consumption now on digital devices, fans have now access to countless manga titles as well as western comic titles. Sales of digital manga volumes excluding magazines have jumped 27.1% to USD1.3 billion in 2018.

Developed in collaboration with the Japanese publishing conglomerate, KADOKAWA, the UOW Malaysia KDU University College’s Diploma in Sequential Art diploma is meant to cultivate visual artists and storytellers with a high work standard synonymous with the Japanese with a flair for localised Malaysian content. . Malaysia is home to an abundance of visual talents, proudly showcasing their work locally and globally. Entrance Review
Upon fulfilling the entry requirement, a prospective student MUST submit a 2 (TWO) page comic panel (free topic) and 1 (ONE) character drawing. Include your name and email address clearly on the submissions. Non- submission of review work may result in non-acceptance into the program. Please forward your entrance review work to [email protected] with the subject title ‘DSA ENTRANCE REVIEW’.
