Clinical pharmacists are vital members of the health care system whose contributions have been shown to improve patient outcomes while being cost-effective.

Pharmacists also work in partnership with physicians to assume responsibility for medication therapy management — for patients with chronic conditions like diabetes, asthma, etc.

They do this intending to help patients achieve a desired therapeutic outcomes with the use of the appropriate medications, diet, and lifestyle.


Community Pharmacy
Pharmacists aren’t just limited to dispensing medicines or monitoring patients for adverse effects and interacting medicines.

They also provide counselling services like a proper selection of over-the-counter medicines and referrals to other health care professionals. Some pharmacists are also knowledgeable in alternative medication.


Governmental Agencies

Many patients receive professional medical care away from hospitals. They are cared for in their homes through the home health care system.

Pharmacists who work in this field provide medications like intravenous antibiotics, pain management medications supplements, etc.

Home care pharmacists also monitor the patient’s progress as he or she responds to treatment and adjust therapy as needed.

Bachelor of Pharmacy graduates usually opt for academic positions at university schools of pharmacy, in public administration, or medicine. There is also keen interest from governmental agencies, health care consulting organizations, international organizations, etc.


Pharmaceutical Sales Executives
Pharmacists who choose this profession are responsible for the promotion of a pharmaceutical company’s products and services to clients in the healthcare sector.

A pharmaceutical sales executive will also be responsible for describing the chemistry of a particular medication, how the medicine works, side effects, and reactions with other drugs.

Hence, an understanding of pharmacology would be useful for students who intend to choose this field.


Regulatory Pharmacists
Pharmacists in this field are responsible for obtaining approval from local regulatory authorities to sell and market pharmaceutical products.

They act as middlemen between pharmaceutical companies and the local regulatory bodies to ensure that products are safe, of good quality, and efficacious.

The job description of a regulatory pharmacist will have you involved with a lot of details where you will be scrutinizing scientific and legal documents.


Nuclear Pharmacists
Nuclear pharmacists are clinical specialists who work specifically with radioactive drugs at a nuclear specialty pharmacy to diagnose and treat specific diseases.

A nuclear pharmacist under the direction of a physician can compound and dispense radioactive drugs to medical providers. Being a nuclear pharmacist also involves analyzing drugs for verification and strength.
