Four Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) students were awarded the First Runner-up position in the Youth Entrepreneurship Competition (YEC). The state-level competition was organised by the Penang Youth Development Centre (PYDC) with the finals held on 24 January 2026.
The students, Lim Xuan You, Liew Weng Zhen, Chong Wei Jia and Lim Fang Chern pitched a project titled OnlyCars (The Future of Roadside Assistance), which aimed at assisting drivers whose vehicles broke down. When this happens, users can use their app to match with a suitable mechanic and request them to come and repair their vehicle. The project also features transparent pricing so that users know how much they are being charged for the repairs and with payment all conducted online as well.
They were led by TAR UMT lecturers, Ts Tan Kee Oon (Kelvin) and Ms Kee Sim Ee. During the competition they also received mentorship from industry expert Yeoh Chee Wei (Alen), which was provided exclusively to state-level qualifiers.
The team received a cash prize of RM2,000, along with a trophy and a certificate.
